Our Programme Areas

Empowering Acholi communities through these six(6) thematic areas

We carry out research on the ground and through the media to monitor the state of forest, wetland, farmland use in Acholiland and plan appropriate actions.
Acholi sub region which is still recovering from a 20-years long armed conflict is the epicenter of deforestation in Uganda today. Illegal logging closely followed by charcoal burning, firewood cutting and farmland opening has led to massive deforestation and land degradation.
The catastrophic results of the unlawful and unsustainable practices have led to loss of biodiversity, altered weather pattern/climate extremes – floods, droughts, threatening livelihoods of local communities and worsening food insecurity.
Loss of biodiversity threatens traditional sources of food, building materials, breathable air and medicine.
Acholi Tree Appeal is an initiative that seeks financial and material support from all stakeholders locally and globally to replant depleted indigenous trees in Acholiland, produce green briquettes as substitute for black charcoal, and promote clean cooking technologies through use of improved biomass stoves and smokeless firewood stoves.

Training and Capacity Building

AIIC is committed to providing training and capacity building to individuals and groups such as Farmers, Agri-preneurs, Business Owners in the areas of management, financial literacy, resource mobilization.

We aim to empower, affirm and sustain providers, shift negative attitudes, reduce stigma in various fields especially as Agriculture Industry.

Our experiential approach enables us to prepare farmers and integrate them into their routine agriculture practice. We develop innovative, relevant and practical Agriculture training modules and multi-media resources for use in urban and rural contexts.

Conference, Workshops and Community-Led Think Tank

AIIC positions itself to take a leading role in facilitating the exchange of information and furthering Agriculture, Agribusiness, Appropriate Technology and General Business education by coordinating workshops, meetings and conferences throughout Acholiland. The Centre strives to provide an unparalleled platform for intellectual exchanges and mobilizing the planning, execution and monitoring of scientific inquiry and action in the fields of Agriculture, Technology and General Business. Every year we will bring together scholars, innovators, Entrepreneur and researchers around topics that cover well-established research agenda’s as well as emerging issues in the various fields. The workshops provide a unique opportunity to explore rather targeted themes among a small group of experts, young and old, from Uganda and elsewhere in the world. A Community Resource Centre equipped with conference facilities, library, internet café, museum, meetings halls are planned to constructed to support the activity. The Conferences are meant to present some state-of-the-art findings in a particular fields of Agriculture, Technology and General Business. Our workshops and conferences will in the future be co-organized with other Research Centers, Universities or Industries, Agricultural Colleges, and Business Schools and held in their premises.

Incubator/Accelerator/Mentoring Support

At AIIC, we are at an early stage planning to provide incubation support and a co-working space to mission-driven Agribusiness Entrepreneurs, Farmers, Technicians, Business People and individuals with innovative ideas.
We will offer mentorship, access to funding, marketing connections and the resources needed to achieve better growth for businesses.
Our Start-up accelerators will be generally fixed-term, group programmes that include mentorship and training and may end in a public pitch event or demo day.
The main purpose of our incubator program is to help startups at a very early stage to grow.
They are collaborative programmes which help people solve problems associated with launching a startup by providing a space to work, seed funding, mentoring, training, appropriate technology and other benefits.

We market Acholiland under the theme: Destination Acholiland: Visit. Explore. Invest.
The programme covers the key areas of Tourism, Trade and Investment.
Our position is that green business is the way to sustainable future for people and our planet.
We research, profile and document and disseminate potentials and opportunities in the above mentioned fields in Acholiland in particular and Uganda in general.

Our Trade shows and exhibitions are excellent way to promote your business and the products and services that you offer.
We offer this through online means such as social media, online directory and physical events.
They are also a great way to network with other industry members and grow your customer base.
Our trade show is an event where goods and services in the Agriculture, industrial and general goods industry are exhibited and demonstrated to other businesses and consumers.

Our exhibition is the same, except the audience are normally the general public. Expos, trade shows and exhibitions can be useful marketing tools.

Climate Justice, Environment, and Natural Resource Conservation
Climate-Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Livelihoods Development

Our innovative strategy is for local communities to embrace livelihoods diversification for increased production, productivity and profits. This is intended to boost their economic security in the ever-evolving landscape of agriculture where variables like climate fluctuations and market dynamics play a major role. Under our Outreach, Demonstration (demo) farms are the most effective extension education tools. For smallholder farmers, demo plots provide an opportunity to demonstrate and teach appropriate technologies, as well as venues to test new innovative methods side by side with traditional methods. Apart from agriculture, entrepreneurship, business management and financial literacy is embedded in the programme to fully equip the beneficiaries to transform their lives. Although they require considerable time and effort, the payback comes when farmers more readily adapt practices they perceive to be effective and appropriate under local conditions. We plan to engage with large inputs suppliers to establish demo farms throughout Acholiland. If farmers are educated on how best to farm a wide variety of crops, they are more likely to produce higher yields, farm more efficiently and sustainably on the land available to them, and be able to sell their produce for higher prices.

Tourism, Trade and Investment

AIIC recognises the great potential and comparative advantage of Acholi sub region: the enormous agricultural and agro-industrial potential:- the vast tracts of fertile arable land (over 40% of the country’s fertile arable land, but only 30% is utilised.); a large area totaling 28,224-kilometre square i.e. 11.68% of the country's area size of 241,559 sq. km.- and larger than 11 individual African countries; abundant freshwater sources; cheap labour; good weather and two major planting seasons that is very suitable for agricultural and forestry production. In addition, the untapped wildlife/tourism economy!
Acholi Eco-Agri is social enterprise focused on combating environmental degradation, climate change impacts and chronic poverty affecting the people in Acholi sub region, Northern through the promotion of:
• Alternative cooking fuels namely charcoal briquettes, biogas, and ethanol; and fuel-efficient cooking stoves;
• Diversified sustainable alternative livelihoods in climate-smart and market-driven agricultural enterprises;
• Landscape and ecosystem restoration, forestry, environmental conservation and wildlife economy.
Acholi Eco-Agri will establish East Africa Centre for Climate-Smart Agribusiness as a model community-centred and locally led permanent agricultural and rural transformation institution to drive the intervention. The organisation will leverage cross border partnerships to scale innovations and extend benefits across East Africa through production and export of agricultural products namely grains, cereals, goats, vegetables, sheep poultry, improved seeds and planting materials; training and technology transfer; sharing of experiences and exchange visits; and other forms of collaboration.
